There is nothing like a bold lip to draw attention to the face. Spring and summer are the seasons to experiment with colours like coral, orange and pink. With skin exposed to more sunshine, the warm glow of your skin is a great canvas for these bright lip colours.  Dare to take it a step further with a matching manicure.  Bright nails are also a great way to embrace the new season.

Celebrities have been embracing the trend to go for brighter shades including the unexpected.  Jennifer Lopez wore a bright pink lip while attending shows at New York Fashion Week in February.

Some people didn’t like the tangerine lipstick (above)worn by Jennifer Hudson at the Project Runway spring 2013 fashion show.  Tangerine is certainly a colour not typically worn by Black women for its shocking hue, but this season it’s being embraced as one of the trends of the moment.

You can find a range of bright shades in anything from high to low-priced cosmetic lines. MAC has always been innovative when it comes to interesting lip shades available in a range of colours that look amazing on various skin tones.  Look out for MAC’s Embrace Me, Betty Bright, Pink Pigeon, Neon Orange and Vegas Volt.  Maybelline also has a collection called Color Goes Electric for spring 2013.  It includes shades like Orange Edge.  You’ll find most cosmetic companies will have their own versions of bold colour for spring.

Try something new this season and take the time to experiment with a colour you’ve been afraid of trying.  I think I will.  I might just post so pics for you once I do. 🙂
