It was a gathering of fashion and social elite to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion exhibit, “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” The event is hosted annually by Anna Wintour, the queen of fashion. This year’s theme was white tie and diamonds. Some stuck with it while others went their own way as many celebs do.
My personal favourite was Karolina Kurkova’s structured blue gown with floral print. I also thought Janelle Monae chose an ensemble that was true to her personality and had more edge than wearing a traditional gown. Fashion maven Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the first to arrive at the event. She wore a glorious black and white gown with red signature detail by Oscar de la Renta. Lupita N’yongo, who has become fashion’s ‘it’ girl of late, showed up in a green Prada dress that was like a green jewelled fishnet over a skin-tone bodice with feather details. Considering she’s been on point at every red carpet, this dress was a surprise to many. Some loved it, while many took to social media saying it was a big miss.
