STYLE | Bare Your Midriff

One thing is clear in fashion – the crop top is back and with a vengeance.  I haven’t seen so many bare bellies since Mariah Carey danced around in her cut off denim shorts and crop tops in the early 90s.  There are women who wore it back then and may shy away from it now.  Especially if their bodies have changed.  But as fashion goes everything that’s goes out of style always seems to come back again.

This trend is definitely for the woman who is confident enough to bare her navel.  Much like wearing a bikini, it often takes guts to walk out the door showing off your mid-section.  Thankfully this time around, there are many variations allowing for us to partake in the trend without showing too much skin.

Choosing a high waisted pant or skirt with your crop top will allow for more coverage in your mid-section so you can wear this trend.  Designer Jonathan Simkhai paired a crop top with a skirt that bared a little skin but not so much that it’s uncomfortable.  Now of course if you’ve got abs like Madonna or Serena Williams feel free to go crazy and wear a navel baring top like the one from Jil Stuart pictured above.   For now you’ve got time on your side.  We are heading into the autumn/winter season which should give you enough time to get yourself in shape for next spring if you wanted to pick some of these tops for your wardrobe.
