“It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through.”
-Zig Ziglar
Have you ever started something and then didn’t finish? You wouldn’t be alone if you said yes. Many people have goals in mind that they never actually follow through on. I really love the quote by Zig Ziglar above because it is so true that discipline is what makes us follow through.
Think about it.
A person makes a goal to lose weight. But the only way to follow through is get out of bed, go to the gym and commit to doing it regularly. That person also must change eating habits and eliminate the things that will only hinder the goal. That takes discipline. Even when the smallest distractions are trying to steer you off path it’s the discipline you have deep inside that keeps you going.
How do you get discipline? It takes practice and a deep desire to really commit to your end goal.
People who are successful at what they do often spend hours practicing their craft. Sacrificing leisure time to do the things necessary to become the best at what they do. That’s discipline. Being a person who follows through on what you say you’ll do, shows others you are reliable. When you say something, you should really mean it.
Today, choose to follow through even on the smallest things you commit to. You don’t want to leave a reputation as, “the person who never finishes anything.”
