Pantone has announced that emerald is the colour of the year for 2013. Last year it was tangerine tango for its energy boosting qualities and this coming year Pantone says it’s all about ‘balance and harmony’. Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of Pantone Color Institute® said “Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.” This jewel toned colour has already made several appearances on the runways for Spring 2013 collections.
Tracy Reese, known for some of her designs for Michelle Obama, used this colour in her collection for spring. The colour is rich and exudes a sense of sophistication.
When I see green it’s a refreshing, rejuvenating colour that represents life. Green is the colour of plant-life and can symbolize rebirth and growth. What a perfect colour to start off a new year.
Add this to your wardrobe in small doses if you’re not ready for it just yet. But remember it can easily be worn day or night. In shiny fabrics or lace it’s the perfect look for evening or gala events. In twill, cotton, and sateens it’s a great look for day or the office. If you’re just looking to add subtle bits of emerald try patterns, colour-blocking or even accessories like a clutch purse or shoes.
