Anytime Beyoncé drops new music it makes headlines and rocks the music world. This time the announcement of her music for ‘Lion King: The Gift’ not only features some of the music industry’s top players like Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and Pharrell Williams, but it shines the spotlight on some of Africa’s most talented artists.

In an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts she said, “The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, not just use some of the sounds and did my own interpretation of it.”

One of Nigeria’s most popular female artists, Tiwa Savage makes an appearance on the album with Mr. Eazi in the song, Keys to the Kingdom. Nigeria’s Wizkid also appears on the album and Ghana’s Shata Wale performs on a track with Beyoncé called ‘Already’.

Other Africans featured are Nigerians Burna Boy, Tekno and Yemi Alade, Cameroonian artist Salatiel and South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly.

When speaking about the diverse artists on the album, Beyoncé told the press “It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

The album release date is Friday July 19th.
