Red Star Collection is a hot new label that’s been getting a lot of likes and shares on social media.  The swimwear collection is inspired by the vibrant prints and traditional patterns of African fabrics.  Known for the Kentekini and Dashkini, the lead designer is known as ‘Red’. She’s been designing for most of her life.  Her daughter-in-law, Nigerian-American, Dunnie Onansanya is also a designer and started the Los Angeles based company with her husband Ibrahim Hasan. The partnership has so far proved to be a success.  Already featured in Huffington Post and Essence Online, the brand can only continue to grow.

This label also further proves the popularity of African inspired fashions.  The industry has continued to grow over the last decade and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.  The popularity of the dashiki pattern and the traditional kente fabrics from Ghana have always been positively received throughout the continent and within the diaspora communities.  Now it’s become more mainstream and a common part of summer wear.
