One of the most destructive things many of us do is compare ourselves to the people around us. We look at their lives and set an unrealistic standard we want to achieve. Without even realizing it you create a competition with some of your closest friends and that can be self-sabotaging. The whole idea of ‘keeping up with the Jones’ has created a society that is always competing with each other. We want better clothes, cars, houses, and more money. It’s a never-ending cycle. Once you realize that the only person you should be competing with is yourself you will be much happier.
We should be looking at being a better person than we were yesterday. Not trying to be better than someone else. It’s about striving to have daily improvements in every facet of our lives. The first step is to simply look at your own life and where you want to improve. Not because of someone else, but because you want to be a better you.
Comparing yourself to other people is a never-ending battle you should not allow yourself to get into. Stop. Look in the mirror. You are your own competition.
