“First impressions do count.” -Ivy Prosper
No matter what we do, there will come a point in our lives when we are faced with that first meeting; job interview, date, friend, teacher, boss, etc. No matter what there is always a time when you are going to be making a first impression.
What can you do to make a good first impression? Here are a few simple tips.
1. Smile.
There is something very inviting about a person with a smile on their face. It projects warmth and brings positive energy. It also relaxes not only you but the person you are meeting.
2. Make eye contact.
Looking at the person directly in the eye shows you are genuinely interested in what they have to say when having conversation.
3. Dress appropriately.
We all know there are dress codes for certain situations. If you’re going for a job interview it’s obvious dressing like you’re going to a nightclub is not the best way to make an impression. Think about where you are going, who you’re meeting and the nature of the situation to make the best judgement as to what is deemed appropriate.
4. Respect time.
If this is an appointment where you’re meeting someone for the first time, being early is important. It shows you respect the other person’s time and know how to keep a schedule. There is nothing worse than being late to a first meeting.
