The Telecel Ghana Foundation has made significant strides in improving maternal and child health in Ghana through its free bimonthly rural ultrasound scan initiative. Recently, over 320 pregnant women in the Upper East Region benefited from this vital health service, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to supporting maternal health in underserved communities.
As part of the Foundation’s Connected Health programs, the latest initiative reached 251 women in Kpatia and 76 women in Denugu, both located within the Garu District of the Upper East Region. Since its inception, the Rural Ultrasound Scan initiative has been pivotal in addressing the healthcare needs of pregnant women in these areas, providing crucial prenatal care that is often inaccessible.
“Access to prenatal care is essential for the health of both mother and child,” said Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Foundation, Sustainability, and External Communications at Telecel Ghana. “Our Rural Ultrasound Scan project bridges the healthcare accessibility gap in rural areas, ensuring that expectant mothers receive the necessary medical attention during their pregnancies,” she added.
The initiative goes beyond just providing ultrasound scans. It also focuses on educating women about pregnancy health, fostering awareness, and encouraging proactive healthcare management. This comprehensive approach helps identify potential complications early, thereby reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and promoting healthier pregnancies and births.
“We are committed to supporting maternal health across Ghana. Through our efforts, we hope to make a tangible difference in the lives of many women and their families,” Rockson emphasized.
The Rural Ultrasound Initiative exemplifies the Telecel Ghana Foundation’s dedication to improving the lives of Ghanaians, particularly those residing in rural and underserved communities. As the foundation continues to prioritize healthcare interventions, it anticipates further positive outcomes that will benefit more women and families in the future.
The success of this program highlights the critical role of accessible healthcare services in improving maternal health outcomes and sets a benchmark for similar initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in rural areas. Through sustained efforts and community engagement, the Telecel Ghana Foundation remains at the forefront of fostering healthier futures for mothers and children across Ghana.
